Dear Friends and Patients:

I am pleased to announce that my practice will be adding two new surgeons aswe expand our services to meet the excitement and challenges of modern Ophthalmology. Starting immediately, our patients will have access to advanced care in Glaucoma, Cornea Surgery and High Technology cataract implants. Accordingly, I would like to introduce Doctors Nathalie Rioux and John Frangie as my new associates at 10 Hospital Drive. Each surgeon has practiced in Western Massachusetts over the course of the past decade and they are recognized as leaders in their respective fields.

Nathalie Rioux was the director of the glaucoma service at the University of Missouri. She is a fellowship-trained Glaucoma specialist, a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a Diplomate of The American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Riouxs' glaucoma practice is unique in the area as she has access to two separate optic nerve analysis technologies - optic nerve topography (HRT) and scanning laser polarimetry (GDx). In conjunction with our own SLT laser system, our glaucoma patients will have access to the most advanced technologies available, including tube shunts and valves. Dr. Rioux will also provide general eye examinations, cataract evaluations and refractive intraocular lenses.

John Frangie is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Boston University where he directed the Cornea and Refractive Surgery Service for six years, in addition, he served as Ophthalmologist-in-Chief at The Boston City Hospital. Dr. Frangie has published numerous chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals and continues to present papers nationally. While John is best know locally for his interest in Refractive Surgery, his medical practice features the latest innovation in corneal transplantation - Descemets Endothelial Keratoplasty, as well as refractive intraocular lenses. Additionally we are the only practice outside of Boston offering intracorneal ring implants utilizing the femtosecond laser.

I am truly excited for the opportunity to continue to provide comprehensive patient-centered eyecare in association with two very skilled ophthalmic physicians and surgeons. This new association has given to Ellen, my wife and office manager, and me much joy. Our practice here in Holyoke is so precious to both of us and we are thrilled that two so accomplished people will not only carry on our tradition of excellence but also enhance it.

Dr. John Frangie and Dr. Nathalie Rioux are very mindful of Holyokes' historical eminence as a center for exceptional medical care. They are aware of the outstanding achievements of the Holyoke Medical Center and it's superb medical staff. Together, we look forward to a bright future for the most scientifically advanced eyecare in this beautiful area of Massachusetts.
